All ancient Chinese teas more or less had ties with Buddhism. Zen Tea, a representative among them, was started in the 9th century when Buddhist monks cultivated tea around their temples. The tea is a local wild species and its ritual uses, a courtesy in their ceremonies and to pilgrims to their temples, gave it the name.
Authenticated organic tea by Environment Protection Bureau in 1999, this green tea is noted for its natural and unpolluted cleanliness. The crop started from the end of March, and standard picking is one shoot with one or two leaves. Its refreshing and mellow taste gained it silver medal in Panama Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco, 1915.
Located in East Sea, Pu-tuo Mountain, one of four most famous Buddhist mountains in China, is renowned for its Buddhist temples and related historic interest. Situated in maritime climate of temperate zone, its fertile soil and humid air provides favorable conditions for tea-growing.
