By comparison to its celebrated oolong teas, Guangdong Province has few green teas and most of them are mainly consumed within the province. One green tea that has gained nationwide fame is Silver Tip Tea. This is a new tea formulated by Guang-bei Tea Plantation around 1980s. In 1994 it won a gold medal at Chinese National Agriculture exposition and in 1997 won a silver medal in Chinese Teacup Competition held by Chinese Tea Association.

Tea can can be harvested year around, beginning in February and ending in November. Standard picking is one shoot of one tender leaf. It would need about 3,000 leaves for one ounce high grade tea.

Le-chang is a mountainous prefecture on the north border of Guangdong Province with 65 per cent of its land covered with forests. Teas grow on the higher elevation deep into the the mountains.
